Looking for an excuse to get out of the house, make some new friends, enjoy a good meal and learn about the exciting world of nature?  Then join us!  These programs are held the first Tuesday of each month.  The nature program will start at 11 a.m. at the Story County Conservation Center, McFarland Park (56461 180th Street, Ames).  An optional luncheon follows the program at 12 pm.  Lunch registration is due the Friday before the program.  The cost of the catered lunch is $7.

Freshwater Mussels - December 4, 11 a.m.

Freshwater mussels can be found in many rivers and streams in Iowa.  They are valuable components of freshwater biodiversity and healthy ecosystems.  Come learn more about freshwater mussels from Natural Resource Biologist Jennifer Kurth.  Kurth, who is currently int he midst of a six-year, state-wide survey of freshwater mussels in Iowa rivers and streams, works in the Water Improvement Department at the Iowa DNR.
