Looking for an excuse to get out of the house, make some new friends, enjoy a good meal and learn about the exciting world of nature?  Then join us!  These programs are held the first Tuesday of each month.  The nature program will start at 11 a.m. at the Story County Conservation Center, McFarland Park (56461 180th Street, Ames).  An optional luncheon follows the program at 12 p.m.  Lunch registration and $7 fee is due the Friday before the program.

Floating Through History

Not just for paddlers, Larry Stone's PowerPoint offers an entertaining, yet thought-provoking, look at the natural and cultural resources that canoeists, visitors, and residents may experience along Iowa waterways.  We'll see how early explorers used our rivers and discuss what wildlife and wild lands they encountered.  We'll also ponder how those rivers shaped our cities and farms, while acknowledging that people also reshaped many rivers.
