Get Certified as a Master River Steward!

The Master River Steward Program (MRSP) is an adult-education program led by local experts that teaches watershed awareness, paddling and navigation skills, river and stream dynamics, aquatic habitat, water quality and water monitoring, and policies related to floodplains, river protection and restoration. 

To become a Master River Steward, you need to:
Have an interest in river systems and conservation
Complete all 8 sessions and readings
Provide at least 32 hours of volunteer efforts after the training, usually done as a group project
Have a willingness to learn and share ideas with others. 

Session series begins May 11th at McFarland Park in Ames. 
Cost is $100

Register online by April 23rd. 

Sessions are from 5:30 to 9:30 pm and will include outdoor activities.

May 11 - Introduction and Watersheds
May 18 - River Form and Function
May 20 - Navigating Iowa's Waters and River Life (Paddle Trip 10 am to 4 pm)
May 25 - River Chemistry and Monitoring
June 1 - Agricultural Production, Policies, and Iowa's Rivers
June 8 - Stream and Riparian Zone Restoration and Impacts on Fish and Wildlife
June 15 - Review and Potential Projects
August 3 - Final Review Session
