The first Lincoln Highway Day was held October 1983, in conjunction with a celebration of the finished railroad overpass west of Nevada. The overpass spanned the new connecting line between the east-west and north-south railroads. The two railroads were only one mile apart at this location. The second year it was held in September. The third year it was moved to August. All three years the event met with rain. But Lincoln Highway Day committee members never gave up. Through both rain and sunshine, they stuck with their celebration and have guided its growth through the years. What started out to be an “Old 30” celebration to celebrate the completion of the new overpass west of Nevada has ended up being changed to “Lincoln Highway Days” and has created a lot of excitement among people interested in Nevada and Lincoln Highway History.
